Repointing
Over time mortar joints erode and let water into the stack. We rake out failed joints and repoint with a mortar suited to the brick or stone: softer mixes for older properties so the masonry can breathe and doesn't crack.

Stop damp patches and loose brickwork at the source with a chimney that is repointed, sealed and flashed properly, before it becomes a safety risk.
Chimneys are the most exposed part of any house. They catch wind and rain on every face, and the joints between brick, mortar, flaunching and lead are constantly working. When any one of these fails, water gets into the stack and down into the rooms below.
Chimney repairs cover repointing failed mortar joints, replacing cracked flaunching around the pots, renewing or resetting pots and cowls, replacing lead flashings and soakers, and partially or fully rebuilding stacks that have become unstable.
Many chimney leaks are blamed on the roof, and many roof leaks are blamed on the chimney. Travis inspects both and shows you photos of exactly where water is getting in, so you only pay for work that solves the problem.
A chimney deteriorates from the top down, and the consequences can be serious.
Stains and peeling paint on chimney breasts, often in upstairs bedrooms.
Loose bricks, pots or flaunching can fall onto the roof, gutters or garden below.
Failed flashings let water run into the roof timbers around the chimney.
Water in brick and mortar freezes and expands, cracking the stack further each winter.
Long-term weathering can leave a stack unstable and in need of rebuilding.
We don't publish prices because every roof is different. After a free inspection you get one fixed price. These are the things that shape it.
Most chimney work needs scaffolding or safe roof access, depending on the height and position of the stack.
Repointing, flaunching, pots, flashings and full rebuilds are priced on what your chimney actually needs.
Older brick and stone need suitable softer mortars, and matching reclaimed bricks takes time to source.
Chimneys shared with a neighbour may need coordinating, which we can help with.
The stack, pots, flaunching and flashings checked up close and photographed.
We explain what has failed and whether repair or rebuild is needed.
Appropriate access arranged so the work is done safely and properly.

Secured pots and sound brickwork remove the risk of falling debris.
Good repointing and flaunching protect the brick from frost damage.

Somerset chimneys range from brick stacks on 1930s semis to stone stacks on period cottages. These are the repairs we carry out most often.
“Roof work was carried out very efficiently and to a high standard. I was kept fully informed at all times about the job as it progressed.”
Over time mortar joints erode and let water into the stack. We rake out failed joints and repoint with a mortar suited to the brick or stone: softer mixes for older properties so the masonry can breathe and doesn't crack.
Flaunching is the mortar collar at the top of the stack that holds the pots and sheds water. Cracked flaunching is one of the most common causes of chimney leaks. We renew it, reset or replace pots, and can fit cowls or caps to disused flues.
The junction between the chimney and the roof is sealed with lead flashings, soakers and back gutters. We renew these in properly dressed code lead, chased into the brickwork rather than stuck on.
Where a stack is leaning, badly cracked or the brickwork has deteriorated too far, we take it down to a sound level and rebuild it, reusing original bricks where possible to keep its appearance.
If a chimney is no longer used and is causing problems, removing it below roof level and tiling over can be an option. We'll discuss whether this is suitable for your property.
When you call about chimney repairs, you speak to Travis. He inspects the roof, prices the work and carries it out himself, bringing in trusted labourers only on larger jobs. There's no handover between a surveyor, an office and a crew, so nothing gets lost along the way.
You see photos of the problem before you're asked to spend anything. If extra work turns up once the job starts, you're shown the evidence and the options before anything changes. One customer put it simply: he kept them informed of any extra work needed, with evidence.
Every chimney repairs job is quoted at a fixed price after a free inspection. You know the full cost up front, and it doesn't creep up if the job takes longer than expected. Travis prefers not to publish prices online, because guessing without seeing the roof helps nobody.
